The West Texas Mile didn’t Start in a boardroom- it started with a dream and a phone call.

Our local airport needed new life, and a few people with big ideas (and bigger grit) decided to make it happen. With Fresh pavement, wide-open skies, and a perfect location right in the heart of Texas, Colorado City had the makings for something special. From that spark, the West Texas Mile was born. What started as a small idea quickly gained momentum, fueled by a community that wanted to see something new and exciting come to town. We’re proud to host an event that brings neighbors, racers, and families together for a weekend to remember. For three days, Colorado City Airport transforms into a festival of speed and community. Drivers from across the country chase personally bests and world records on our pristine one-mile runway. Overhead, historic aircraft honor our aviation heritage, while on the ground, food trucks, concerts, and the roar of the legendary Smoke & Thunder Jet Truck keep the energy high. We’re just an hour from major cities across West Texas, but when you arrive, you’ll feel like you’ve stepped into something entirely new -a once-a-year gathering where motorsports meet small-town spirit. This is just the beginning, and each year the show will grow bigger, faster, and better.
